Dundalk head coach Stephen O’Donnell has backed his side to bounce back from their defeat against Derry City when they welcome Bohemians to Oriel Park on Friday night.
The Lilywhites’ six match unbeaten run came to an end at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium as goals from Jordan McEneff, Brandon Kavanagh and Michael Duffy saw Ruaidhrí Higgins side claim their first win in seven attempts against the Louth men.
O’Donnell kept his players in the dressing room for a lengthy period after the game after admitting they “didn’t compete well enough” on the night but he is hopeful they can bounce back to winning ways against a Bohs side who sit three points ahead of them at present, with a game less played.
“We’ve won our last four previous to tonight and we’re unbeaten in six. We’ve had a poor defeat tonight but it’s another big game on Friday and a game that we’re really looking forward to,” said O’Donnell.

The study – published in the official journal of the British Geriatrics Society, Age and Ageing – shows how a combination of simple strength exercises and dietary changes could help stop frailty and enhance physical resilience in those aged over 65.
Professor Marie-Therese Cooney, senior co-author and consultant geriatrician at St Vincent’s University Hospital, said: “The practical and easily deployed approach could yield substantial benefits if rolled out across the community.”
“Most people believe frailty is inevitable and irreversible as we age,” said Dr John Travers, a general practitioner who led the research at UCD.

The Dundalk fighter had, quite literally, the perfect year, winning every one of her bouts en route to taking gold at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and European Championships, Michael Conlon the only other Irish boxer to have achieved that feat. And just for good measure, she was named “Boxer of the Tournament” at the Europeans.
Louth County Council is appealing to owners of unoccupied properties to offer them as temporary homes for people fleeing the devastating war in Ukraine.
The call is part of a new government initiative, led by local authorities, to make use of unoccupied houses, apartments or holiday homes to house Ukrainian people and families.
A tax-free recognition payment of €800 per month is available for properties used to house those arriving from Ukraine. This payment rate applies from December 1st 2022.
More than 60,000 people have arrived to Ireland from Ukraine seeking safety and the vast majority need accommodation.

Political leaders from around the globe have a “special responsibility” to urgently drive the transformation needed to tackle climate change, Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said.
He made the comments as he prepares to attend the Cop27 UN climate talks in Egypt.
The climate change conference takes place in Sharm El-Sheikh this week.
Mr Martin will attend the event as well as Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Eamon Ryan, Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney and Minister of State for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora Colm Brophy.

BLACKROCK Tidy Towns are to run their annual table quiz next month for the first time in three years, having suspended the popular event during Covid.
The committee have decided on Wednesday November 9 as the date for the quiz, and are to return to what was the usual venue for the staging of the event, that is Dundalk golf club.
It is an event and date that those who enjoy a good night’s entertainment might wish to take a note of and keep their diary free for that night.

It was a ‘Carnival’ day at Faughart CNS as the entire school community enjoyed an end of year celebration.
Pupils, staff and parents celebrated the end of a particularly busy year, the first full school year since the onset of the Covid pandemic.
It was also a successful year for the pupils and staff, with a number of awards received including the SFI Badge of Excellence, with Faughart being named as one of only three schools in Louth to attain the accoldate.

Dundalk Counselling Centre ‘Oakdene’ is celebrating forty years of helping the local community, with the demand for its services as high now as ever.
Set up in 1982 in response to the devastating impact which high levels of unemployment and poverty were having on people’s mental health, including refugees who had escaped the Troubles in Northern Ireland, the Centre proved to be a beacon in how a community can help itself.

There has been widespread sadness at the death of Joan Brady at her home Ashgrove, Avenue Road, Dundalk, on Sunday.
Joan, who was originally from Dublin, was known far and wide as an inspirational participant in the Dublin Women’s Mini-Marathon – taking part in every event since it began in 1983.
She had taken up walking as a form of exercise after seeing people doing it in Central Park while on a trip to New York and set up the Dundalk Joggers and Walkers in the early 1980s.
